Climate change have occurred in past naturally including global warming, destruction of ozone layer and acid rain. With respect to this, we are faced to have a great responsibility for Earth environmental conservation based on the scientific monitoring.
World Meteorological Organization (WMO) established Global Atmosphere Watch Observatory (GAW) in 1989 for monitoring the global climate change. For participating to the international program and producing the global climate change monitoring data, KMA established Korea Global Atmosphere Observatory (KGAWO) in 1990 which is based on the experiments of Sobaek Mountain Meteorological Observatory had been established in 1989.
Since 1998, KGAWO has been constructed the observation system adding the functions for the measurements of greenhouse gases, air quality monitoring, aerosol optical depth and LIDAR system (ozone & aerosol).
